How Anthropic Went From $3B to $20B in 10 Months — And Why I Think They Earned It
I use Claude every day. Not as a novelty. Not to ask it trivia questions. I use it to run my businesses.
In the past two months, I built two websites and an iOS app with Claude. I don't know how to code. I went from not knowing what a terminal was to deploying production apps on a server — all through Claude Cowork and Claude Code. That's the context for why I'm writing this. I'm not covering Anthropic as a spectator. I'm a paying customer who watched the product I depend on get dramatically better in real time.
The revenue tells the story
In May 2025, Anthropic was at a $3 billion revenue run rate. By March 2026, Bloomberg reported them nearing $20 billion. Seven times growth in ten months. Reuters noted that GAAP recognized revenue was closer to $5 billion — the gap between ARR and GAAP tells you companies are signing long-term contracts, not just trying Claude for a month.
Their valuation went from $61.5 billion in March 2025 to $380 billion in February 2026. For context, that's more than McDonald's.
What I actually experienced as a user
Between February and March 2026, Product Compass counted 74 documented releases in 52 days across Claude Code, Cowork, Dispatch, and the API. I felt every one of them. Features I was asking for on Monday were shipping by Thursday. File creation for Excel and PowerPoint. Persistent memory so Claude remembers what we worked on last session. A desktop agent that just does things on my computer without me having to explain every step.
Claude Code went from a research preview to something I genuinely cannot work without. VS Code integration, JetBrains support, GitHub Actions. They acquired Bun and bolted it in for speed. If you're building anything with code right now, this is the tool.
The part that surprised me
Anthropic turned down the Pentagon. The Department of Defense asked them to remove restrictions on using Claude for domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons. Anthropic said no. The Pentagon designated them a "supply chain risk" and cut off all military contractor business.
A company worth $380 billion walked away from government money to hold a line on AI safety. That's not marketing. You don't lose defense contracts as a PR stunt.
Why this matters if you're building something
Here's what I keep coming back to. I'm paying $120 a month for Claude. In two months I've gotten more value out of it than I've gotten from any tool, any course, any hire. And the product is getting better every week.
If you're an entrepreneur or a builder and you're not paying attention to what Anthropic is shipping, you're going to look up in six months and wonder how everyone else got so far ahead. This isn't hype. I'm living it.
