Claude Can Control Your Computer Now. I Built Two Websites and an App Without Knowing How to Code.

Anthropic just released computer use for Claude. It can control your mouse, your keyboard, see your screen, open apps, click buttons, fill out forms. It's basically what made OpenClaw go viral, except now it's built directly into Claude Desktop.

I want to talk about what this actually means in practice, because I don't think most people get it yet.

I'm on the $120/month Claude plan. In the past two months, I've built two full websites and an iOS app. I don't know how to code. Not even a little. Everything I built, I either had Claude do it for me directly, or Claude walked me through it step by step until I could do it myself. And that second part is the part nobody talks about.

It's not just doing the work for you. It's teaching you how to do the work while you're doing it. I learned more in two months of working with Claude than I did in years of school. And I'm not exaggerating. I went from not knowing what a terminal was to deploying production apps on a server.

Even at $250/month for the Max plan, if you're actually using it, you're getting way more value back. Think about what it would cost to hire a developer to build two websites and an iOS app. You're looking at tens of thousands of dollars minimum. I did it for a couple hundred bucks a month.

Now here's the part that really gets me. This is the worst it's ever going to be. Opus 4.6 is incredible, but it still makes mistakes. You still have to proofread things. You still have to guide it sometimes. It's not perfect. But it's the dumbest and most expensive these models will ever be. What happens when the capabilities of Opus 4.6 cost $5/month because we're three or four models ahead? Anyone with even a basic understanding of what they want to build can just build it.

A word of caution though. Computer use means you're giving AI access to your entire machine. Your passwords, your files, your browser sessions, everything on your screen. Anthropic has a good reputation for safety — Claude asks for permission before touching anything — but you should still ease into it. Know exactly what it has access to. Don't just hand over the keys and walk away.

Here's what I keep thinking about though. People hear "AI is going to take jobs" and they panic. But I think about it differently. If AI makes lawyers cheaper, lawyers don't disappear. Legal help just becomes accessible to people who couldn't afford it before. If AI makes healthcare cheaper, doctors don't go away. It just means more people can actually see one. The things that were only available to people with money start becoming available to everyone.

I drive Uber right now. Everyone says driving jobs are gone in five years. That's exactly why I'm figuring this out now. I'm not sitting around waiting to see what happens. I'm using the tools while they're here and learning everything I can.

The people I talk to in real life have no idea any of this is happening. They still think AI is just a chatbot that answers questions. They don't know that it can build software, control computers, and do real work that's actually worth money. That gap between people who know and people who don't is going to be one of the defining things of the next decade.

I'm writing about this now, while it's still early, because I think people need to hear it from someone who's actually using it — not from some tech influencer with a million followers.
